elkinsville eclipse

April 2024 (in July)

Photos from late March, and early April.

This period of my year was foundational in my reinvigoration toward my future. I had just accepted my admission to the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and the beginnings of Calumet were swirling in my head. I also found an old large-format camera on Facebook Marketplace that I had restored. It is a Kodak Eastman No. 1 from 1914. Although I have not used it much, I plan to cover the physical restoration process and how I euse it to recontextualize the world around me. I did use it to immortalize the eclipse, although it was just an over-glorified filter, as the final image was recorded through the ground glass.

It’s one thing to say here, but in the future, I plan to catch up on my photos to July. I’ve been playing with old digicams, so I would like to spell out that process of experimentation later and share the results. In addition to this content, I would like to share my newest ongoing project Calumet, and its early infancy and how it has materialized into a map-making exercise. The plan is for Calumet to evolve into my thesis project for my Master of Architecture.

Although this is intended to be a design project, it shifts mediums and has mainly been expressed in the form of a novel. In time with more confidence, I would like to start posting drafts on Substack, not only to garner an audience, but a jury of judgmental eyes.

This mental map needs more explorers, so I can make sure they get lost as much as I do within the dream of Calumet.

Stay tuned, and again, thank you for your time.
